I know plenty of people who can paint without the benefit of a dedicated space to it. That's great! But I find it a lot easier to be able to head upstairs, put on some tunes, and just start painting.
I don't approach most of my paintings with any sort of direction, though I often have some ideas in mind. Often, I start with making shapes and textures using acrylic medium and my palette knife. Every once in a while I'll use a template I've cut out of plastic or bubble wrap to create texture as well.
I need to verify the sizes on these, but I think the first two are 10 x 10 or 12 by 12, and the last one is 8 x 8.
Paint it Black, $75

Salvaging a "dead" canvas: I hated everything about what was on this and almost threw it away. Then, decided to just do like the Rolling Stones and paint it black. I don't know if they'd have done the white splatters, though. This painting is actually kind of heavy, thanks to all the paint layers. Bumpy, too. It makes for a great texture.
"Flight of a Bumblebee" $100

I've been doing a lot of yellow paintings lately, too. It certainly looks better on the canvas than it does on me.
"Reflecting Pool," $75

I had some fun exploring the light and dark with this, but it didn't feel finished until I added the gold splatters. The texture of that feels like it somehow unifies the painting.
